Hanafuda Cards
There are 12 suits representing months, each suit is designated a flower with the beauties of nature.
And also each suit has 4 cards, so there are 48 cards in total.
Each suit has 'Chaff' card(s) worth one point, may has (poetry) 'Ribbon' card worth five points, may has 'Ten' card worth ten points, and may has 'Bright' card worth twenty points.
The point values could be considered unnecessary and arbitrary (especially "Koi-koi" rule, "Koi-koi" rule's point is based on "yaku"), as the most popular games only concern themselves with certain combinations of taken cards.
There are many Hanafuda's card design, for example "Hachihachihana(八八花)"(Japanese most popular design), "Echigohana(越後花)", "Kintokihana(金時花)", .. and many, and "Hwatu(花闘)"(Korean popular design) and so on.
Hachihachihana(八八花)
The Hachihachihana is most popular and common Hanafuda design.
This design was completed by integrated many local Hanafuda design scattered across Japan on
Meiji period.
This design's feature is that the willow's chaff card becomes red "Drum with Ogre".

- *1 : The card "Sake Cup" is "Disguise Card". That is, though technically classified as a 10-point card,
it counts as both a 10-point card and a 1-point card at the same time.
Echigohana(越後花)
This Hanafuda design using so beautiful gold and silver color is used to Echigo in Japan.
This visual design is a few different from Hachihachihana,
however, basic suit of point and card class is equal to Hachihachihana.
This design's feature is that there are Chaff cards of January, February, April, May, August and October
describing classical Japanese verse Waka,
and the November's Bright card is "Willow with Coarse Oilpaper Umbrella".
